Tyra Banks talks to People Magazine

Submitted by Meg Wilson on January 25, 2007 - 08:53.

Tyra Banks is on the cover of the February 5th issue of People Magazine. Here she discusses her recent weight gain and how upset she has been with people calling her fat. Tyra Banks is 5'10" and in this issue she says she weighs 161 pounds, about thirty more than she weighed at the peak of her career ten years ago. This would still not qualify her as being overweight according to BMI standards.

See Tyra Banks in an earlier bikini photo here. Our guess is that given she is a tall woman, she must weigh over 170 pounds in this photo.

Tyra Banks has Gained a lot of Weight

Here's a recent picture of Tyra Banks in a bikini. It looks like the rumors are true. She has gained a lot of weight, though she is still relatively slim, except by supermodel standards.

Banks retired from modeling last year. She no longer feels pressure to maintain an ultra-thin body. She has moved on to using her smarts instead of her body in the next stages of her incredibly successful business career.

Tyra Banks gets Fat

Tyra Banks has gained some weight. But to call her 'fat' would really be streching it. She is no longer supermodel skinny and is said to have gained 50 pounds recently. The photo here was reportedly photoshopped to make her look much slimmer for the America's Next Top Model 7 series. She has reportedly been told to lose weight if she wants to continue to host next seasons show.

Tyra Banks, 32, was born and raised in Los Angeles. As a child and early teen she was considered an ugly duckling. This was a very difficult time for her and she developed "very strong self-image problem."

Banks retired from an astoundingly successful modeling career last year. She had recently said she would not allow any future photographs of herself to be touched up or digitally enhanced. She wants to rely solely on make-up and clever hair styling techniques to enhance her beauty naturally. So this raises questions as to how this photoshop decision was made and whether she had some say in it.
