While they were frolicking in the first few days of October the global economy around them was in a bit of a meltdown. Marisa Miller, age 30, is being featured in an extensive ad campaign for Harley Davidson. She's promoting their new V-Rod Muscle motorcycle.

She says, “To represent such an iconic American brand is incredible. I have grown up watching my dad and uncle ride Harleys. It’s amazing to circle back at this point in my career, and work with a brand I have so much respect for.”

The campaign will include video, wallpapers and downloadable photos.

Here's Sarah Palin on the cover of the current Newsweek magazine. Have you ever seen such a close-up face of a man or a woman on Newsweek before? Us neither. It's not very nice. How many women could pull off such a close-up at age 44? It would be interesting to know how much airbrushing was involved in this photo.

Calvin Tomkins interviews Elizabeth Peyton, age 42, in this week's New Yorker. Peyton is a painter whose work is being exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary Art starting tomorrow in New York.

Tomkins asks her what she got from reading "In Search of Lost Time".

"It was in the last volume", Peyton says, after some reflection. "The narrator goes to a party, and sees these people who have been in his life, and they've aged and so has he. But because of his memories he realizes that all times are present in the same time. This made so much sense to me."

Tompkins goes on to say that Peyton's portrait paintings involve "a complete absence of irony and cynicism, the twin pillars of postmodern style". Check out some of her art here.

Holly Breaks Up with Hef

Holly Madison, age 28, has been living with Hugh Hefner, age 82, at the Playboy mansion for seven years. But now she's moving on, and has already moved out and into her own condo.

They will still be filming "The Girls Nex Door" for one more season. But as far as their relationship goes, it's over.

Holly wanted marriage and kids and Hefner did not.

"I love [Holly] very much, but she wants very much to get married and have children, but that isn’t in the cards for me," says Hugh. "So there has to be a certain reality there. And I’m sure the time will come when she’ll be dating others. That’s part of the transition."

As TMZ.com puts it;

"If a love affair between a 28-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man can't work, what hope is there for the rest of us?"

Another very powerful crystal for the heart chakra - which of course is related to love - is kunzite. Kunzite is a very powerful heart opener and opens you to give and receive love and assists in healing "heart" issues.

Here's a video spoof worth watching, with the real Ralph Nader and Lisa Nova impersonating Sarah Palin.

It's hard to believe Nader is 74 years old. He looks very healthy and vibrant for his age. It's highly unlikely that Botox or face lifts are involved in his graceful aging.

Rising Celebrity: Nouriel Roubini

Nouriel Roubini (photos then and now, age 49) is an economist who has been warning about the financial crisis since 2006, when he spoke out about the dangers of the housing and credit bubble at the IMF but no one listened. (See the New York Times story.)

Roubini thinks the current bailout proposal would just be a gift to the people who caused this mess in the first place - it would be giving taxpayer money to the shareholders and unsecured debt holders of the financial sector. This would be a mega redistribution from the poor to the rich, but more crucially it would merely be a temporary fix in a leaking boat and would not save any of us from a severe depression.

Erin Callan was the CFO at Lehman Brothers until June. She got out just in time and five weeks later jumped to Credit Suisse as the head of their global hedge fund business. (Now is a hedge fund not the truest safety, or what?)

Sarah Palin halloween costumes are expected to be very popular this year. Jessica Chisum shows us how we can create our own Sarah Palin look-a-like look.

The updo is a must. (She recommends buying a cheap wig). The rimless glasses are also a must. Chisum says the key to the makeup is lots of bronzer. You need to wear an orangy-tan base, heavy on the bronzer, lots of dark brown eyeliner (but only on the bottom of the eyes) and glossy mauve lipstick.

And don't forget the attractive but serious power suit.

Middle Age Serfdom = Democracy + Lobbyists

For anyone trying to understand what has just happened to American capitalism, and what this economic catastrophe implies in the near future to us and our children, we'd highly recommend listening to an NPR radio show where (the Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times reporter) Gretchen Morgenson (photo left) explains what is happening behind closed doors in Washington right now regarding a taxpayer bailout of a free-wheeling Wall Street decade-long party of unregulated (thus legal) crime.

It's hard to believe, but in the heyday of the last few years, these Wall Street alpha male Kings and Lords (along with their several hundred Knights) were making about 6% of the total wages taken in by all the millions of Americans. Now, US citizens, without representatives to speak for them are being asked to clean this up (all while powerful bank lobbyists - fed by the smooth brown envelopes from the Kings and Lords - dance with the congressmen they've been generously feeding in the inner chambers, and politely but forcefully call in their perpetual dues).
