A Virtual Model for Weight Loss

Submitted by Adriana Rae on September 21, 2006 - 14:27.

Here is what I weigh now and what my heaviest weight was. Scroll on the 'start' and 'goal' buttons to see me at my starting and goal weight.

We've created this virtual model for people who are in the process of losing weight and want to show the stats on your web site (or on your own private iGoogle page). It's based on body mass index (BMI) calculations. The model will look different for women who weigh the same but are different heights.

Aside from your personal height and weight, you can customize the dress, hair and skin colors. If people like it, we'll be adding more options, including a male version and more hairstyles, face types and clothing styles.

New Dec. 2007: You can now see your model on your own personalized iGoogle page as well as being able to add it to your website sidebar.

Update:
How to Get the model to work for your Height/Weight
1) Click on the iGoogle link.
2) Click on the button "Add to Google"
3) Now you should see the virtual model. To customize it you need to go to the top right of the box and click on the little down arrow at the top there. This will enable you to 'edit settings' for your height and weight.

Hope you enjoy trying it out!

I think it's great. I also think it would be nice to have virtual measurements since i know as an african american my thighs and legs are thicker than the model and my body shape is more of an hour glass. big breast, small waist and big hips and legs. not quite a pear lol, not quite top heavy.
thank you so much for this tool

Thanks so much. Glad you enjoy it!
We'll try to create more specific measurements if there is enough want for it in the near future.

Hey this widget is broken! I really like it. Is somebody still managing it who can fix it? Thank you!

Submitted by Meg Wilson on May 2, 2009 - 06:57.

The model works fine. Let me know where you get stuck.

I guess I should be flattered to think that my body looks like the little drawing of the model, but at nearly 300 pounds, I haven't looked that "thin" since I weighed 180.

I work out 2-3 hours a day, eat healthy, and I am pretty muscular. While I am 5'1'' and weigh about 150, I am nowhere near fat although I do have a small tummy most of me is muscle and i am broader. I try not to go based on a number personally, however, i would like to lose 10 lbs and no matter how hard i try i just cant. Do you have any advice (i know what BMI says but I seriously think BMI is innaccurate when it comes to my body. Is there a better way to calculate...

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on January 13, 2009 - 06:07.

I think this is a great idea but just needs to go a little more in depth. Body shapes or measurements for the model would be good and a lot more options for her look. A little less cartoony would be an idea too.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on January 11, 2009 - 23:03.

I thought it was great until I tried it. I've lost 55 pounds and it looks like just a tad on the virtual model, in real life I'm so much more like a woman with a shape! Sorry to be disappointed 'cause it is real cute, just unrealistic, maybe for large weight loss amounts. I definitely looked bigger at the start weight than it shows and look better now than it shows. The arms and face didn't change at all. Would be nice if there was a way to adjust it.

I love the virtual weight loss model. However, I do recommend adding in measurements. Aside from that it works great for me. Can't wait till I have my baby in January so I can get started on making my model slim down. :) thanks for the cool tool.

you know your model doesn't go below 130lbs. I weigh 118 lbs and every time i try to lower the weight the model goes away and stops working. Think you can fix that maybe? Thanks.

Submitted by Amy (not verified) on September 1, 2008 - 21:11.

I am not really sure which model is version c, but I have tried all 3 of them many times and get errors with all 3. I don't understand what you mean when you say "the links to the model from this post will get you to the correct version (version c). I hate to be annoying but can you just spell it out really simply for those of us (ME) that are computer slow?
Thanks.

im 15 and im 5'7.i know it's tall but im 135 pounds.is aiming for 127 pounds too much?

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 28, 2008 - 10:47.

If you're 15 your body is going to change naturally, based on age and how you're growing. Don't worry about loosing weight at this point, just focus on eating right and keeping fit. When you've completely finished growing, that is when you can start to shed the pounds.

The problem is that when your growing and trying to diet you are going to mess with important fat cells, like your brain, and your boobs. If you diet when you're young you are going to live a life of flat chestedness, which you'll regret later.

Just focus on being healthy at this point.

im 5ft 3 and 117 pounds.. i dont think it goes that Far,

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 9, 2008 - 23:33.

I was trying to try this out just to see how this would work for me. I am 250lbs and the virtual weight loss lady only goes up to 210. My goal is 125 not 130. I thought this might give me some insight on what I could look like, maybe some incouragment. I don't think it works very well.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on October 1, 2008 - 12:43.

I'm not sure why it didn't work for you - my top weight was 238 and my goal is 150. My model works fine with those weights. Maybe you should try again. There's better instructions now on how to make it work if you scroll up the page a bit to "How to make the model work for your height and weight". Good luck

Just a little bit of encouragement: You can lose the weight that you want. I didn't think that I could. But one day I finally got tired of not being able to play so well with my two kids. I weighed 269lbs. I'm only 5'2". People couldn't even tell I was PG when I went to have my son. I cried, when they said oh..your pregnant? But once I finally wanted to lose the weight I did it. I got all the way down to 115 lbs (too thin). I looked so sickly. But now I'm a healthy 126lbs. I've been that way for two years. I have kept the weight off for almost 4 years.

So there is hope, but you have to believe and really truly want to. I still slip up, and will gain six or seven pounds Christmas time :(, but then I quite with the sugars again and lose it and feel better. A little sugar is fine. But when I'm in over load mode I feel so tired and just nasty on the inside.

Good luck...

Hi Lavinia,

You are five feet and five inches tall. (165 centimeters=5'5")

You can convert your weight from kilograms to pounds using the calculator at the bottom of the left sidebar here. If you weigh 76 kg then you weigh 167 pounds.

cheers,

Realistic

How skinny is she?? And she's a funny shape - women don't look like that!!
I'm 5'6" and around 125lbs and she looks like she's about 105! Is there no way of changing it so it actually looks like a person of correct proportion in relation to their height/weight? Else it really just means nothing... :\

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on July 13, 2008 - 07:44.

The model looks much thinner than I appear. Her arms seem about right, but her torso, hips, and legs are much more slender than mine.

I am 5' 4" and 126 pounds (aiming for 120). I have a small-to-medium build and I have decent muscle mass, but also fatty spots (belly, hips, thighs).

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on September 21, 2008 - 13:12.

I know, It's too thin . I'm 17 , 5' 6" and 105 and I don't look like her AT ALL

Submitted by Guest515 (not verified) on July 9, 2008 - 12:00.

I am definitely nowhere near as skinny as my model is at my height and weight!!! You really need to add in the ability to change the body type as well.

Looks like the model only goes up to 210? Does it go any higher? It would be great to track using your product but it doesn't go to my weight.

Submitted by Meg Wilson on July 31, 2008 - 23:01.

nope, it goes much higher than that, depending on height..

I weigh 145 and I am 5'6 and I look kinda fat but this girl in your photo looks great at my weight.

Submitted by Meg Wilson on May 19, 2008 - 14:43.

Adriana is also 5'6". She's relatively fit and has got a mesomorph build, with more muscle than the average woman. (Muscle weighs about three times as much as fat for the same volume/space.) So she doesn't look fat at all at 145 pounds. But she'd like to lose 10 pounds and get to 135 where she thinks she would feel and look even better.

Thanks for your comment. We'd be interested if other people also think this image of a 5'6" woman looks unrealistic for 145 pounds?

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on June 24, 2008 - 10:57.

I think this looks very unrealistic.

I am 5'5" and 117lbs and she looks way skinnier than me.

Submitted by Amanda (not verified) on March 21, 2008 - 19:38.

How come my start weight looks thinner than my current weight? (117 then 109 now) and how come I can't go below 105 lbs?

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on June 9, 2008 - 00:19.

I know!!!
My start weight: 97
Now: 92.4
Goal: 85
IT WON'T WORK! She's jammed or something and I'm stuck looking at a fatty with my name.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on July 8, 2008 - 22:57.

Maybe it's because your an anorexic bitch

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 2, 2008 - 20:30.

We needed to change the virtual model so that it wasn't possible to go below 18 BMI (body mass index). Apologies to anyone who wanted to see how they would look at a sickening skinny skeleton of below this weight, but this is not something we want to participate in.

Thanks,
meg

I wasn't trying to do that I wanted to see me as beautiful. I'm 5"2 and 92.4 but want to be 85 and your doll is stupid she won't help me.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 26, 2008 - 04:35.

Don't worry about what they say, they are just fat bitches that are jealous of skinny people like us. Im 5ft 6 and weigh 92 pounds and i've never felt this great =D I think if you want to be thin then you should =D Don't let them fat hoes pressure you into becoming one of them.

Submitted by Stephanie (not verified) on September 4, 2008 - 12:46.

Don't even stoop to other peoples level. That was the absolute wrong way to address her for being skinny I agree. If they think that is a problem they should have expressed concern, not been hateful like that. I would just say, next time... express yourself without calling them names too. Then you look like the better person. It's sad that instead of addressing the issue as being too skinny they dogged her. She really could have a problem and they prob. just aggrevated it. Good for you for coming to her rescue though. I am sure she is beautiful regardless. Ya, I know this is like a billion years late for a reply, I just couldn't help it. Sorry...

Submitted by Meg Wilson on September 4, 2008 - 16:31.

You're right, I didn't respond to the question with any empathy and i didn't take the time to answer properly. It's just that we were frightened that anorexic people would use this virtual model to pursue their potentially very ill and dangerous goals. It was quite a panic for us when we started to get links from a couple of pro-anorexia sites. We changed it so that it would clearly not be a helpful tool for anyone who wanted to get below 18 BMI. This may not be the ideal solution but this is the best we can do for now.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on July 16, 2008 - 09:33.

why dont you just be happy at 90lbs, before you harm your health and make other people your age think thats the thing to do, its not

Submitted by Paula (not verified) on March 2, 2008 - 12:22.

I have been trying for days to use the virtual model. Is there a problem?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on March 3, 2008 - 15:48.

Please see the March update in the post above. We've put up a new version (version c) which works fine, but if you are using an older version (b or d) it won't work.

All links to the virtual model on this page will take you to the correct working version.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on February 18, 2008 - 15:56.

im confused. i want to make my own but...theres no option to...im really confused lol. like i added it to my google and stuff but i dont know how to make it look like me. help!

Submitted by Meg Wilson on February 20, 2008 - 01:17.

Thanks much for your comment but please just read the stuff below what you have written. Your confusion will go away.

And also everyone else who's reading this, please hold on. I think this virtual model problem will be resolved within the next ten days.

Submitted by Meg Wilson on February 10, 2008 - 13:50.

Well, i checked back an hour later and the virtual model is again not working properly. This is a problem we are having with installing it on Google gadgets. We put it up as an updated version a few days ago, but it is taking some time to update this properly with Google gadgets. We'd recommend you not bother trying it now, until we're sure the changes are complete. Please bear with us. Apologies again for the hassle.

UPDATE: the model works fine if you add it to your iGoogle page or your website from the sidebar here. But if you happen to have come across it on the iGoogle gadget page and you try using that version, it will not work yet.

Unfortunately things are getting a little mixed up as we have three versions on the loose now. iGoogle has versions vb and vd but the one that works - version c - is not yet registered on Google - and we have to take the blame for this due to an oversight on our part.

So thanks everyone for being understanding, the model will be working there as well soon.
