Zwinky Cuties

Submitted by Meg Wilson on November 27, 2008 - 09:50.

Zwinky Cuties is a site where pre-teen girls can go and create virtual avatars, dress them up, create a room for them and interact with their friends. It was created after the sister site 'Zwinky world' became so popular with teenage girls. Zwinky World was launched two years ago but already has 16 million registered users and six million unique users per month.

Zwinky Cuties is meant to appeal to girls between the ages of 6-12. It's competing with other virtual worlds such as Disney's Club Penguin, (which Disney bought last year for a reported $350 million) and similar Barbie, Bratz and Webkinz virtual worlds.

eMarketer estimates that over 50% of all Internet-connected kids between the ages of 3 and 17 will visit virtual worlds by 2011. In 2008, this number is already 34%.
