HandBag Lust

Submitted by Meg Wilson on March 30, 2007 - 16:20.

Are you one of those women who will spend thousands of dollars a year on handbags? Apparently this curious habit is an escalating one. There is a great article in the April issue of the Atlantic about getting carried away with handbags.

Lynn Yaeger says that "Handbags have nosed their way into a place once occupied almost exclusively by diamonds and fancy furs, functioning as badges of honor, announcements that you've arrived at a particular economic or social level, or at the very least, emblems of hopefulness, yearning and optimism - I have the same bag as a movie star! I am someone to be reckoned with! - that can be brandished for all the world to see."

She also says the 'It bags' right now are a Fendi with outsized buckles shaped like a B, a Goyard tote made of resin-coated, chevron-patterned linen and cotton and a black vinyl Chanel sack called the Coco Cabas (which some people think looks like a trash bag).

Here's Sienna Miller above with the Coco Cabas.
