Yes, sometimes losing weight and building muscle will help deminish the appearance of cellulite. It can be more evident, especially in places such as the backs of the legs and buttocks, if we don't have enough muscle to sort of 'stretch and smooth' it out. But cellulite is not just a problem of being overweight. It's a different type of fat. Cellulite is actually an accumulation of toxins which has formed 'pockets' and bulges in certain areas of the body. Sometimes it could be helped by simply changing our diets. But as we age, our toxic load becomes greater and unless we do some form of detox regularly, it's harder to get rid of. I'm 26 years old and have a pretty good body. I eat very well now and exercise reguarly but still have cellulite on the back on my legs. I was almost 15 pounds heavier when I was 19 years old and had NO cellulite. As a teenager I lived off fast food daily as well as candy, chips, snack cakes, and soda. I also didn't get proper nutrtion as I started puberity, where it's needed the most. I got into drugs and alcohol pretty early on as well as smoking from a young age. Problems started to build up causing stress on my liver which caused constant headahces. Then I started popping pain relievers 5-10 times a day and only made the problems far worse. Now I get bi-weekly colonics, follow a pretty healthy and mostly natural diet, have starting doing bi-weekly liver flushes, fast from time to time, and so on. My cellulite is starting to get a little better, but it's going to take a long time to clear up. We spend many years loading crap into our bodies, so a few months in the gym or one 3-day fast isn't going to fox it overnight. The body wraps work well, too, as they flush toxins out of the body. But the results aren't permanant. We have to make permanant lifestyle changes. Visit a practitioner of natural medicine and he/she can tell you exactly what the cellulite is, how it's formed, and how to get rid of it. Oh, and I also recently read somewhere that regular swimming may actually 'flush' out cellulite. The information suggested that swimming in pools that have been chlorinated may do the trick. The chlorine is supposed to get into the skin and actually sort of break up the cellulite while the swirling motion of the water will massage the skin around it, making the cellulite loose so it can flush out of the body. I personally haven't tried it, but it's certainly worth examining. I think the information said to swim at least 3-4 times a week to see results, and it probably won't happen in just one week of swimming.
