Facial Bones Shrink with Time

Submitted by Meg Wilson on October 13, 2006 - 10:01.

Here's a recent pic of Peggy Lipton. It's hard to believe she's 59 years old. It would be interesting to know what kind of cosmetic surgery she's had done (if any?).

Bodyhack has a good post about how our facial bone structure shrinks with age at the same time as our skin develops wrinkles and sags. For women, this process is more rapid than for men.

They quote a surgeon as saying, "Skin tightening, collagen and fat injections, Botox injections, don't take into account changes to the bones...

After you do a face-lift on some patients and look at photos of them when they were young, they look very different. Part of that may be the tightening of the skin over a bony scaffolding that has deteriorated and changed in shape from when they were 18."
