Bodiesis a new book by Susie Orbach. Orbach is a noted psychoanalyst (who is also a bit famous for treating Princess Diana for bulimia).

In the book she discusses how we are becoming increasingly obsessed with our bodies. Body anxiety is a real threat to the modern psyche. The beauty business is a $160 billion industry and "the merchants of body hatred" are the controlling forces.
"2,000 to 5,000 times a week, we receive images of bodies enhanced by digital manipulation."

A plastic surgery franchise employing almost 100 doctors has been fined $300,000 for posting fake reviews on the Internet. The reviews were written by employees.

This is reportedly the first prosecution nationally of "astroturfing," the practice of creating a fake grassroots movement or illegitimate buzz around a commercial item...

A Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Sam Muslim, has some great before and after photos on his website of people who have benefited from his 'face lift dentistry'.

As we age our teeth often wear down. This can alter the shape of our face and can cause bite and facial collapse. When the teeth get shorter our face often gets shorter too and this can increase the appearance of facial wrinkles and can make our lips look thinner.

Dr. Muslim says that 10 to 20 years can be removed from a persons facial appearance with the appropriate cosmetic dental work. Check out his before and after pics here.
