Hair Weaves Lead to Hair Loss for Naomi Campbell

Submitted by Meg Wilson on May 31, 2008 - 08:23.

The Sun is reporting that Naomi Campbell, age 38, is going bald because of her extensive use of hair weaves over the years. They spoke to one of her hairdressers who said she started losing her hair 15 years ago.

This is apparently a common condition known as tension hair loss or 'traction alopecia'. It is localized hair loss caused by damage to hair roots from constantly pulling hair too tight in the same direction. The hair loss is gradual, over years. Hair weaves can cause it because their extra weight pulls on the hair and because of the tight braiding required.
