Coach Handbags - Who's Buying?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on September 27, 2008 - 11:33.

We were curious to find out more about the typical Coach handbag shopper. Google Insight for Search is quite an interesting tool for finding out this type of info.

The chart above shows us the search volume for coach handbags, (the red line) as well as Prada and Chanel bags (orange and blue lines). There are five years of searches shown here, from 2004 to present. You can see that every year there is a big spike in demand in December. Handbag searches are definitely most popular during the holiday season.

You can also see from this graph that at some point in 2005, Chanel handbags became a more popular search than Prada handbags.

And where are the people who are doing the most searches for Coach handbags? According to these stats, the top five cities in the world where people search for Coach handbags are

1. Atlanta
2. Houston
3. Phoenix
4. Tampa
5. Richardson

Notice Los Angeles and New York are nowhere in the top five. These search stats correct for population size, they are just measuring the relative popularity of these keywords out of all searches made from these cities, regardless of how many people live in these cities.

So next time we visit Atlanta, we'll try to notice all the women sporting Coach handbags and see if they really do seem to be the Coach handbag capital of the world.

This last chart shows us the relative popularity of 'Coach handbag' searches in different regions of the world. Not surprisingly, the United States is first, but is then followed by Singapore, Malaysia, Puerto Rico and in fifth place, Canada.

Middle Age Serfdom = Democracy + Lobbyists

Submitted by Meg Wilson on September 27, 2008 - 19:27.

For anyone trying to understand what has just happened to American capitalism, and what this economic catastrophe implies in the near future to us and our children, we'd highly recommend listening to an NPR radio show where (the Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times reporter) Gretchen Morgenson (photo left) explains what is happening behind closed doors in Washington right now regarding a taxpayer bailout of a free-wheeling Wall Street decade-long party of unregulated (thus legal) crime.

It's hard to believe, but in the heyday of the last few years, these Wall Street alpha male Kings and Lords (along with their several hundred Knights) were making about 6% of the total wages taken in by all the millions of Americans. Now, US citizens, without representatives to speak for them are being asked to clean this up (all while powerful bank lobbyists - fed by the smooth brown envelopes from the Kings and Lords - dance with the congressmen they've been generously feeding in the inner chambers, and politely but forcefully call in their perpetual dues).

It's going to cost over $12,000 for every family of four. And that's just the very beginning...
