Plastic Surgeons Feel the Slump

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 28, 2008 - 05:17.

The best summary we've come across about how plastic surgery clinics are beginning to feel a slump in demand due to the looming recession is yesterday's article in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Plastic surgery appointments are down significantly at many clinics. Those experiencing the greatest slowdown are clinics who rely on a younger, less wealthy clientele who seek breast enlargement surgery and liposuction. For such less established clinics who depend more on advertising than on client referrals, the economic pinch is more severe.

It would be interesting to know if plastic surgeons are advertising more instead of less to counteract this decline in their business. Many clinics still don't know they can do some very cheap, effective and (targeted only to their cities) online advertising.

Surgeons relying on a high percentage of nonsurgical cosmetic services or reconstructive plastic surgery are seeing the least decrease in demand.

Hannah Montana is Unhappy with Vanity Fair

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 28, 2008 - 06:22.

Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana, is unhappy with how she comes across in the new issue of Vanity Fair.

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

The Disney Channel agrees. They say, "...a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines".

But Vanity Fair says that "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day," and "Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."

Vanity Fair shows us 18 photos from the shoot on their online site.

Long Nose Beauty

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 28, 2008 - 07:51.

Georgina Stojiljkovic, age 18, is new to modeling in the Big Apple and this Numero 93 May 2008 issue is her first cover shoot.

She's extraordinarily beautiful, perhaps largely due to the long nose.

Some people disagree. One reader at the Fashion Spot says "i always think of dark haired lemon eating paris hilton when i see her".

See a brief interview with Georgina at V Magazine.

The Average Woman - In Germany

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 28, 2008 - 10:49.

The average woman in Germany consumes 57.3 kilograms (126 pounds) of fruit per year, 229 glasses of alcoholic beverages and watches 1,400 hours of television. She has sex with her husband 117 times per year (though they've been married for 17 years) and is 1.66 meters (5'5") tall and weighs a little under 67 kilos (148 pounds). She works part-time, wears her hair long but not too long, runs the household on her own, spends 28 minutes in the bathroom on the average day and likes reading horoscopes.

This woman has no secrets but maybe tells a few white lies when she answers questions for marketing surveys.
