The Skin Cancer Foundation has just put out a cute video about the history of tanning. They want to encourage people to avoid lying out in the sun and instead "Go With Your Own Glow". They use lots of frisky bikini shots to get their point across.

Laser Hair Removal at Home?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 1, 2008 - 07:32.

The first ever laser to be sold for home use is coming out on the U.S. market soon. It's called Tria and uses the same diode-laser technology that's become standard for hair removal in professional clinics.

Tria will retail for $995. A competing product, also to be launched very soon, is Silk'n for $800.

The Wall Street Journal has a good article about these new products. They say;

Tria and Silk'n have their limitations. They are slower than professional treatments, so they work best in small areas like lower legs, underarms and bikini lines rather than big areas like hairy men's backs. The Food and Drug Administration hasn't cleared them for use on the face, though consumers could end up using the devices there. And African-Americans and other dark-skinned people can't use them because of a risk of burns.

These home laser devices are expected to be a huge cosmetic trend over the next few years. Read more at the WSJ about Hair-Razing Devices for the Home.

Ali McGraw Turns 70 Today

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 1, 2008 - 08:09.

Happy Birthday to Ali McGraw. She turns 70 today, April 1st. McGraw is best known for her role in the 1970 movie, Love Story. She was a leading trend setter in the 1970's. Her personal style was enough of a story to make the cover of Time Magazine.

Below is a slice from Love Story;

McGraw's personal love story took a different path. She was married twice, to two famous men, but has been single since age 40.

Above is a recent photo of Ai McGraw (in 2006) with Candice Bergen. She's stayed in great shape with her regular hatha yoga practice.

Pictures for Nothin and Celebs for Free

Submitted by Meg Wilson on April 1, 2008 - 13:57.

There's an amazing new free service being offered to bloggers.

Some clever people have been busy over at PicScout Ltd. Their service, PicApp is still only in beta but it is available to all bloggers and website owners. PicApp has bought up a huge library of stock photos, not to mention high quality celebrity photos.

Above is an example of how PicApp photos will look on your blog or website. It's Adriana Lima unveiling the new BioLift Uplift Bra for Victoria's Secret in Los Angeles on March 4th.

PickApp lets us pick any of their photos and embed them in our websites. The embedding works just as simply as YouTube embedding.

So where is the catch? There is one of course. This service is not 'free' in the sense that ads are shown on the bottom of all photos. Advertisers pay for their product to be viewed but the blogger who publishes the photo does not see even a tiny cut of these revenues. The ad revenues all go to PicScout. PicScount uses this money to pay for more good quality photos. (Update: This may change in the near future and bloggers may get a cut based on how many times the photo was viewed on their site.)

It seems like a really great new resource for bloggers. PicScout is still a private company but they're probably being courted by much larger suitors already as we speak.

Check out more pics at PicApp.
