Do Not Buy Botox Online

The Daily Mail has a frightening article today about companies that are selling Botox, Restylane, and banned skin-lightening creams online.

It's illegal to do this in countries such as the US or UK, but this doesn't stop companies based elsewhere to try to sell these medical products online.

It's hard to believe anyone would want to try to inject themselves with something that arrives in the mail from unknown sources. But even if you were 100% sure this was legit botox it is extremely risky to try to do it yourself. One doctor says;

If the toxin is not injected in precisely the right place, you can paralyse the wrong muscles, causing drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow or even paralysing the muscles that move the eyeball, causing impaired vision.

'With applications of Botox in the lower face and neck it is also possible to cause inability to speak or swallow, and there has been at least one death reported in America. While these are rare complications in the hands of an expert, they are potentially life threatening in unqualified hands.'

See the Poison by Post article on these frightening developments.

This comment says it all "i think that is all such hype because i saved so much money ".

So what you're saying is you think it's all just a money making scam to keep people going to doctors? So it couldn't possibly be a money making scam by persons unknown who are putting god only knows what in a vial and selling it to vain idiots to inject themselves? How do you know what's in the vial? How do you know it's inert? How do you know it's not contaminated? How do you know the water is sterile? What tests have you done to check this? Do you know how to check pharmaceutical products? Where have you got your injecting equipement? How do you know it's sterile? Where do you get yoru injecting advice? What measures do you have in place to deal with anything that goes wrong?

How many more really obvious questions do I need to ask before you wise up and realise you have no real idea what you're doing and what the consequences WILL be...not what they COULD be but what they WILL be. You can't know because..unless you're testing the product you don't really know what's in that syringe. All you can be sure of is that you're about to bypass almost every defence your body has.

For what exactly? So you can look like a startled deer for a couple of days?

1 person died? I'd not want to be that person, but do you people have ANY idea of how many people die from other stuff. If 1 person out of the tens of millions of people who've done Botox, I'd say that's pretty remarkable. Vioxx kill thousands of people, so have a few dozen other meds.

Just so you know, Botox is not good for anything below the nose. Try to relax the mari lines, and you're a fool.

I don't beleive that injecting yourself with botox is dangerous...i think that is all such hype because i saved so much money by buying botox online and injecting myself. Its not hard to educate yourself on the muscle groups that make your face work the way it does and so long as you leave a safe distace from your eyes and eye brows the botox that you inject will work perfectly. Don't beleive what a doctors says until you have done a little bit of research yourself. they just want more money for expensive holidays!

I have recently done botox myself for the first time and just want to say to anyone be extremely careful! I cut & colour my own hair, eyelash perm and tca peel very competently, and have had botox professionally administered over the last 10 years - enough to watch many times what they do. I bought a non branded version from a new zealand site. Just know this stuff is very powerful and it can easily go wrong. I admittedly tried too many advanced techniques on the lower face (marionette lines and chin), neck and directly under the eyes and it left me with a loose lower eyelid for a week, a crooked smile and I had difficulty swallowing and speaking which is thankfully now easing after 3 weeks. I also had flu like symptoms for the first week (which I have since discovered is written about). It gave me a real fright. At one point I thought of going to A&E as I had the symptoms of botulism poisoning (couldnt get out of bed, lift my head, dilated pupils, probs swalowing and speaking etc etc) but read extensively online and decided I would monitor for worsening of symptoms...which didnt happen in the end. Scared the hell out of me though. The branded botox had been given a black box warning in the US as some people experience botulism reactions and it HAS caused deaths (though only 1 cosmetic).It has worked very well on my forehead and frown (standard areas) but I would be so so cautious about administering it on the lower face...if at all. This is not for the novice or the faint hearted. It is difficult to be precise in keeping the volume injected identical each side and you are doing it backwards in a mirror. It does cost a lot do have it done professionally, but doing it yourself could leave you looking like a stroke victim for months or worse...so you need to weigh up if you think saving a bit of money its really worth the risk.
