Katherine Heigl wore a beautiful one-shouldered floor length bright red Escada dress to the Oscars last night. Red was a popular dress color. Heidi Klum, Anna Hathaway, Helen Mirren, Miley Cyrus, Julie Christie and Ruby Dee all also wore glamorous red dresses.

Heigl's red dress color had an orange tinge known as vermilion. According to Wikipedia, vermilion is "is a bright red tinged with orange. It is somewhat similar to the color scarlet. Vermilion is not on the color wheel since the color is mixed with a slight amount of grey."
