Kirsten Haglund of Detroit Michigan is the new Miss America for 2008. Haglund is 19 years old and a student at a Music Conservatory. Her brother recalls that as a child she would always pretend play that she was crowned Miss America. Their grandmother, Iora Hunt had been named Miss Michigan in 1944 and now at age 83, was there to watch her granddaughter win.

Haglund wants to raise awareness of eating disorders. She herself had to deal with this illness at age 16. Here's a video clip of her winning moment in Los Vegas;
