The Washington Post has a good article today about the issue of unsafe ingredients in makeup. Some lipsticks are tainted with lead. Mascara can contain mercury. And hair-straightening products often use formaldehyde. These are just a few examples, but they recommend checking out the Skin Deep site at cosmeticdatabase.com, which looks at ingredients in 27,000 makeup, hair care and skin care products and ranks them in a 1-10 'hazard score'.
