You might be surprised at the short shelf times recommended before throwing away your makeup. Mascara will last from three to six months. Cream eye shadow and liquid eye liner can be kept from three to six months. Powder eyeshadow and liquid foundation can be good for two or three years.

Throw away any makeup if you notice the consistency, color or smell has changed.
