A Virtual Model for Weight Loss

Submitted by Adriana Rae on Thu, 2006-09-21 14:27.

Here is what I weigh now and what my heaviest weight was. Scroll on the 'start' and 'goal' buttons to see me at my starting and goal weight.

We've created this virtual model for people who are in the process of losing weight and want to show the stats on your web site (or on your own private iGoogle page). It's based on body mass index (BMI) calculations. The model will look different for women who weigh the same but are different heights.

Aside from your personal height and weight, you can customize the dress, hair and skin colors. If people like it, we'll be adding more options, including a male version and more hairstyles, face types and clothing styles.

New Dec. 2007: You can now see your model on your own personalized iGoogle page as well as being able to add it to your website sidebar.

Update March 2008:
Thanks for your patience everyone. We've made some improvements to the model but unfortunately this has created errors because now there are three versions offered on iGoogle and only one of them works.

But the links to the model from this post will get you to the correct version (version c).

Hope you enjoy trying it out!

I weigh 145 and I am 5'6 and I look kinda fat but this girl in your photo looks great at my weight.

How come my start weight looks thinner than my current weight? (117 then 109 now) and how come I can't go below 105 lbs?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on Wed, 2008-04-02 20:30.

We needed to change the virtual model so that it wasn't possible to go below 18 BMI (body mass index). Apologies to anyone who wanted to see how they would look at a sickening skinny skeleton of below this weight, but this is not something we want to participate in.

Thanks,
meg

I have been trying for days to use the virtual model. Is there a problem?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on Mon, 2008-03-03 15:48.

Please see the March update in the post above. We've put up a new version (version c) which works fine, but if you are using an older version (b or d) it won't work.

All links to the virtual model on this page will take you to the correct working version.

Thanks much for your comment but please just read the stuff below what you have written. Your confusion will go away.

And also everyone else who's reading this, please hold on. I think this virtual model problem will be resolved within the next ten days.

Well, i checked back an hour later and the virtual model is again not working properly. This is a problem we are having with installing it on Google gadgets. We put it up as an updated version a few days ago, but it is taking some time to update this properly with Google gadgets. We'd recommend you not bother trying it now, until we're sure the changes are complete. Please bear with us. Apologies again for the hassle.

UPDATE: the model works fine if you add it to your iGoogle page or your website from the sidebar here. But if you happen to have come across it on the iGoogle gadget page and you try using that version, it will not work yet.

Unfortunately things are getting a little mixed up as we have three versions on the loose now. iGoogle has versions vb and vd but the one that works - version c - is not yet registered on Google - and we have to take the blame for this due to an oversight on our part.

So thanks everyone for being understanding, the model will be working there as well soon.

Apologies to everyone who has set up the virtual model. We went ahead and made a second improved version a few days ago but we didn't realize this would erase everyone's prior version! So if you had personalized it on your iGoogle page or website, you need to just delete it and set it up again a second time. This will affect over a thousand people and we are very apologetic to each one of you.

This was a GREAT idea when working .....

why hasn't the sponsor of this site fixed the "gadget"?

Hi,

I can't see a model either. Have I done something odd or is there a problem at the moment? This is a very cool idea though. Thanks :)

For some reason, I can't get the model either. Maybe there is still a problem? Thanks!

I don't see any models...is the server down or something?

Submitted by Meg Wilson on Thu, 2008-02-07 14:05.

It was down for a bit while we updated to a newer version.

Some people have written me to say they can't find how to edit the model for their own height and weight.

Once you add this gadget to your iGoogle page, you can change the settings by going up to the top right of the gadget, where you see a little arrow pointing down. Click on this and then click on 'Edit Settings'. This will enable you to customize this model for your own height and weight.

I am very weight and my weight is high... It would seem to me that the model only goes up so high 188. Is it my machine or just the site?

can you please add red hair as an option?? there really are those of us who don't have blonde, brown or black hair!!!!!!

Submitted by Meg Wilson on Thu, 2008-01-10 11:12.

Yes, thanks for the good suggestion, we will definitely do this but it may take a few weeks as we need to make several other changes too...

Really nice virtual model, Do you make the model design by your own hand? Great job, I will try to make a little review about this free service in my Cityslicker Mom blog, under Weight Loss Category, I hope it will help to spread the word about your service. Cheers

It will be nice to have a visual goal - of seeing myself get thinner over time! Bonus thanks for such a cool tool!

Pretty cool, how about making a black hair model?

Submitted by Adriana (not verified) on Thu, 2006-09-21 14:20.

Thanks, different hair and complexion colors will be one of the first additions we will make to the customization options. It's just a matter of time!
