The Washington Post writes a good introduction today for people considering whitening their teeth. They note that tooth-whitening products are considered to be cosmetics (not drugs) and hence the FDA doesn't check up on the claims of the various makers of tooth whitening products. These companies are able to say just about anything they like without having to prove their statements with research.
