Beauty Junkies is a book that is sure to create some wrinkles in Los Angeles and Manhattan this fall. Beauty Junkies: Inside Our $15 Billion Obsession With Cosmetic Surgeryis written by Alex Kuczynski. She is a reporter for the New York Times and has had her own (not-so-perfect) experiences with liposuction and lip enhancement via Restylane injection.

In a candid interview with Publishers Weekly she says she was a cosmetic surgery addict at one point; "I was myself a beauty junkie. I had liposuction on my posterior. I had my upper eyelids done because they were congenitally puffy. I did a lot of Botox. Rather than hating some part of myself, I think this was about preserving the wunderkind factor. You're a smart journalist in your 20s and people say, gosh, it's so great you've achieved so much and you're so young. And then you finally wake up one day and you're middle-aged. All of this work was a way of preserving an adolescent carapace of myself, the ideal marriage of youthful body and grown-up mind, which is what we all secretly want."

In his review of her book, Dr. Arthur Caplan says, "If you are thinking about getting something lifted, tightened, extended, augmented, suctioned or abraded this is the book to read before walking into a plastic surgeon's office.”

Beauty Junkies will be in stores by late October. How old is Kuczynski? She's a young 38.
