It's been known for a long time that carrying a lot of fat around your middle is bad for your health. But now it seems to be confirmed that in terms of heart attack risk what's more important than your overall BMI measurement is the state of your waist-to-hip ratio. A huge recent study analyzing 27,000 people found that BMI measurements were only slightly higher in people who had had heart attacks but much higher for people who had a high waist-to-hip ratio.

Carrying a lot of fat anywhere is bad for your health. You may be a "pear" or you may be an "apple," but either way, you need to be eating more carrots and broccoli. I salute people who recognize they need to drop the weight and get serious about dieting and exercise. In fact, these are just the kind of people who come into the plastic surgery practice I work with, for liposuction or a tummy tuck in Indianapolis. In my opinion, if you are doing the right things, you should be able to enjoy the slimmer look and improved health that comes along with it.
